Introducing Singer/Songwriter Ben Mitchell

Singer/Songwriter Ben Mitchell

We are super excited here at IndieLove Magazine to introduce you to Singer/ Songwriter Ben Mitchell.

Indie singer-songwriter Ben Mitchell’s music career began as a teenager when he played in bands at parties and pubs in his hometown of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. In his early twenties, Mitchell moved to London where he refined his singer-songwriter style, performing at and hosting a songwriter night in Camden. One night he caught the attention of Coldplay and Radiohead engineer, Jon Bailey who invited Mitchell to record in the world famous Air Studios; then owned by The Beatles producer, the late Sir George Martin, whom Mitchell was thrilled to meet.

“Calls to mind the songsmithery of Neil Finn and Ben Harper—a thoughtful songwriter with a gift for simple melodies and powerful emotion.” TIME OUT (UK)

A genre-hopper at heart, Mitchell’s music has evolved to embrace the heartfelt simplicity and story-telling of country and blues, the authenticity of classic singer-songwriters (like some of his inspirations: John Lennon, Joni Mitchell, Neil Finn and Paul Kelly) and the contemporary eclectic freedom of pop n’rock, from ABBA and AC/DC to Prince.

“His song-writing skills put him in a league above.” Americana UK

In 2015 Mitchell was chosen as the featured Artist for ‘Play Vic Week 2015’ by the Community Broadcasters Association of Victoria. Mitchell’s album released independently that year, Chance To Love features 17 songs with every track receiving radio play across Australia (including Triple J, Triple R, FBi, 4ZZZ, RTR, ABC RN, ABC local and many more). One song, Beautiful Mess was picked up by Amazing Radio in London and Ireland. Get Rhythm Magazine in London said Mitchell is, “A powerful performer with bags of stage presence and memorable songs.”

“My favourite local release at the moment” Stephen Walker, 3RRR (of Chance To Love)

Summer Lover, Mitchell’s new album was released on 21st June 2016. Recorded in Healesville it features Andy Taite on bass, Glenn Maynard (Pollyanna) on drums and Shane Reilly (Tex Perkins, Lost Ragas) on pedal steel and baritone guitar. This latest album marks the artistic culmination of years as a globe-traveling troubadour and, among the pop-rock and country-love songs—inspired by nature, love, summer and mortality—features ‘a new Australian anthem’, Ocean Road.
